Quote: A nice rebound effort by Diana Taurasi, who struggled with shooting Thursday at Sacramento and came with a chip on her shoulder Friday, helped slay Seattle. She scored a team-high 31 points and added a team-high nine rebounds as the Mercury (12-14) snapped a two-game losing streak and knocked off Seattle (16-9) for the first time this season in four meetings.

“(Diana) was in attack mode tonight,” said Mercury guard Cappie Pondexter, who scored just 12 points. “She was aggressive, taking jumpers and going to the rack.”

Quote: Pringle made four free throws and Taurasi had four points to key the run. Pringle finished with a season-high 14 points. She made 10 of 10 free throws, added six rebounds and three blocks. All the blocks came in the final period while Seattle was trying to unleash a last run.

“She’s getting stronger as we go,” Pondexter said of Pringle’s rise from off-season knee surgery. “Give her some practice time in August over the break and she’ll be really strong.”

Quote: The Mercury (12-14) saw a 20-point second-quarter lead disappear by the 5:11 mark in the third quarter, when the Storm (16-9) tied the game at 54.
But after a timeout called by officials, the Mercury went on an 18-7 run to close the quarter with an 11-point lead.

"(Coach Corey Gaines) said to us, 'We're going to wake up. Wake up!' So we did it," Taurasi said.

The Storm were without the services of two key players, Sheryl Swoopes and Lauren Jackson. Swoopes left the Storm's game Tuesday against Minnesota with a pulled right hamstring, and Jackson has joined the Australian national team to prepare for the Olympics.

"It's not easy playing without your Australian," Gaines said, referring to the absence of the Mercury's Penny Taylor.

Nine of Taurasi's 31 points came from behind-the-arc, where she shot 50 percent. She also shot 10 of 11 from the free-throw line and led the team with nine rebounds.

Quote: Key players
Diana Taurasi's 31-point effort was crucial, but LaToya Pringle's career-high 14 points relieved pressure on struggling guard Cappie Pondexter. The rookie shot 10 of 10 from the free-throw line.

Key moment
Official timeout at the 4:54 mark in the third quarter. The game was tied at 54 after the Mercury squandered a 20-point lead. They emerged from the timeout with an 18-7 run.

Key number
93.1 The Mercury's free-throw percentage on the night (27 of 29).
