Quote: The Mercury, though only 4 1/2 games behind first-place San Antonio, are contending for the final playoff spot with Minnesota, Houston and Sacramento, Phoenix's opponent Saturday.
The Monarchs, along with the Comets, could be considered the bottom dwellers of the conference, with the lowest winning percentages. Yet little was expected of either after the cornerstone of each team, Yolanda Griffith for Sacramento and Sheryl Swoopes for Houston, departed for greener pastures in Seattle. Still, both teams have as many wins (nine) as the Mercury.
A loss in Sacramento on Saturday night could drop the Mercury into last place, depending on the outcome of the Comets game against the Lynx in Minnesota.
The Monarchs have survived the loss of Griffith, a former Most Valuable Player, with the help of a pair of fourth-year forwards in Nicole Powell and Rebekkah Brunson.
They are Sacramento's top-two scorers, and each has an additional dimension to her game. The 6-foot-3 Brunson is tied with the Mercury's Le'coe Willingham for the most offensive rebounds collected this season, and Powell makes 44.1 percent of her shots from behind the arc.

Quote: If you want to know how Phoenix fared in a game all you have to do is look at one number: its point total. When it is 85 or higher, a victory can safely be assumed. The Mercury are 9-1 in those games, the only blemish coming in the season opener.
When the total is under 85, a loss is guaranteed. Phoenix is 0-9 in those instances.
The Mercury average a league-high 88.0 points per game and also are first in the WNBA in field-goal percentage (43.2) and free-throw percentage (81.5). Those statistics indicate that Phoenix should have no problem reaching 85 points on a regular basis.

Hopefully it will be a good game regardless.
Right now, with all that running, I'm putting the over/under number of times a player runs into me courtside at 2 :P
By the way, is there any way to get a larger file photo of my avatar picture? That would make a great picture to hang on the wall... She's the Right Guard... 8) |
