Quote: ...this Mercury team has great guts and it doesn't run from a fight. Pondexter is one of the more exciting players in the league, and the presence of Taurasi, a ferocious competitor and a free spirit, means anything is possible. Think of them kindly, if you do nothing else.
WNBA Preview 2008: Phoenix Mercury

Quote: One cannot overlook the most potent scoring combination in the league, small forward Diana Taurasi and shooting guard Cappie Pondexter. Combined they totaled 36.4 ppg during the regular season, and raised it to an amazing 43.8 ppg during the playoffs. With more touches sans Taylor, these two could average over 20 ppg apiece this season. The only question may be which one is more explosive, and which one will lead the league in scoring this season.
Tangela Smith and Kelly Miller receive less of the praise, but are important returning veterans as well. Smith's mid-range jump shooting ability and her ability to hit the pull up jumper on the break and from the corner are important for the Phoenix offense. Miller is perhaps the perfect point guard for the system Corey Gaines will continue to run. She never seems to get tired, doesn't mind taking the assist over the basket, and plays aggressive defense.
