Well so far poll number show we are all in agreement, we need a player who can score.
But just to play devils advocate, the draft in 2004 is stocked with players who can score, so maybe if we have to settle for a banger/inside presence, it would not be so bad? |

Make that score at a decent percentage...
Yeah the 2004 draft is packed with scoring 2/3s. However I think we could pick up a scorer in the dispersal draft AND a scorer next year... |

I would tend to just go with the "Best available player" approach.
IMO, there is really no position in our lineup that couldn't benefit from having a star recruit in. (Possible exception is at centre - but then we don't know that Maria is returning) |

Expect either Carrie Graf or Gary Kloppenburg (assistants at SEA last season) to join the Mercury. Hopefully we can afford both (doubt it). Graf could follow Dunn to Minnesota.
Rumor (rumour) has it Trish is thinking second child versus returning to the Mercury. Rodney O (her husband) would love to public address announce, yet it would have to be a package deal. With her return likely being only for one season, Illona Korstine's possible return, and a dispersal draft; we may not have the pleasure of watching Trish again.
Post Cynthia Cooper and post Brandy Reed, the Mercury should market this season as a new and exciting beginning. With Coach Shumate's sincere passion, the Colangelos committed, Jen still having game, Lisa and Adrain continuing to step up, Veal healthy, Maria returning; Moises, Bonfiglio, Korstine?, and Christensen adding youthful flare, etc. we have much to look forward to! |

Fallon is a long shot with her daughter now school age which is probably more the reason she stays away. Possibly a Brogan return to the WNBA but not to the Mercury. Do we still own her rights? Either way, she probably has minimal trade value.
I'd prefer that Korstine or Fallon don't return to the mix. Neither is going to make or break the team. The talent available in the dispersal draft changes everything. Better to make room for experienced players committed to the WNBA, and/or enthusiastic, energetic Kayte-type college kids. |

Yeah Trish is iffy for the WNBA. The only thing I would like to see her do is play for my beloved Sydney Flames for at least one more season as a farewell of sorts!
As for Korstine, the fact she plays for a top team in the French league means that she will ALWAYS turn up late to camp or miss out one or two games. She's a player but I wouldn't rely on her. I would give her a chance though *if* she wants it. |

| From what Ive seen the Mercury need to work on their chemistry. The last few seasons it has not been there. The one thing the Mercury had in their early years was great chemistry. Has anyone else noticed the bad chemistry? :? |

Remembering seasons past, two of our prime movers in the chemistry department were Timmy & Pettis, who are obviously no longer with us.
Kayte definitely seems to be great in that area though. Hard-working, enthusiastic, great attitude. Wish there were more players like her around. |

| Remove the prima donna attitudes and the chemistry will return. There's no room for ego-driven, self proclaimed "stars". The only one who consistently shows star ability is Gillom and she's the most humble person you'll ever meet. |

Ok Gia, I want names.....which particular "Prima Donnas" do we need to move  You can tell "off the record" of course!
I do believe Coach Shumate will have a big effect on chemistry. His attitude is infectious :D |

My guesses:
A former ROY, a SG playing PG, a former ABL player, or the ABL player's closest peer.
Shu and his assistants will have them thinking defense in their sleep, so no time for distractions. Optimistic as I am about this year, I'm expecting the team to really gel. Shu's passion will be infectious, and as we start to win the fun will return! |

| There is a new poll on www.wnba.com/mercury asking what the team should look for in the 2003 draft. Sounds like they mean the college draft rather than the dispersal draft. Check it out and vote. Thoughts??? |
