Official announcement coming Friday. Jen Gillom will be an assistant coach for the Lynx. I am so happy for her, but mad at the Mercury. They should be ashamed. I thought for sure once Seth was gone she would be hired. This makes me very angry with the organization again. For them to hire Bridget as an assistant and pass up Jen is a disgrace. Don't get me wrong, Bridget is a good person who brought a lot of emotion to the game but Jen did a whole lot more. Jen desrves to be our assistant more then Bridget. As I said I am thrilled for Jen but very upset with the Mercury. Takes me back to 2003. The whole thing makes no sense.

Side bar, moderators, please don't delete this. Some don't resepct my opinion, but I would appreciate you letting this go forward. Thank you

Disappointing that you would turn this nice piece of news into a negative and use it to take another pot shot at the Mercury.

What I would like to say is a big CONGRATULATIONS TO JEN!! :D
Great to see her back in the league.
And of course congratulations to the Lynx on their acquisition. I'm sure Jen will be a valuable acquisition to the franchise.

As for the Mercury... what positive things have you done lately exactly?
Oh yeah, you just won the freakin' WNBA championship.
OK, ya got me that time. I'll let you off for now, but I GOT MY EYE ON YOU, MERCURY!! :!:

Jenn and Bridget are two different people with two differnt skill sets. Coaching a running game...ah not one of Jenns skills.
Bridget is perfect for the job because of her super caffinated energy.
Jenn will be great in Minnesota. Just be happy for her.

and let me ask...do you know for sure the Mercury DIDN'T offer her a coaching position???
I believe Jenn is smart enough to know where her skills lie, and developing Ohlde and Hayden is a perfect position for her...developing an already developed Smith and Schumacher, not so much.

You talk about respecting your opinion, but your opinion is always based on blind loyalty without considering whether one person is a better fit than another. Pettis was a MUCH better fit for Westhead's offense than Gillom. And again, nice job using yet another thread for your agenda.

You all want to promote agendas, not me. You always side with management. Bridget is a good person, but Jen did far more for this team in every way. I will always be angry with mangeent for letting her walk. And until she is our coach I will not let it go.

Speaking of agendas, need I remind all of you what happend when Cooper was our coach? You all vented every chance you got about how bad she was and that you wanted her fired. Agenda, that was one right there. But that was okay for you to do. Makes no sense.

Doing something for the team does not make her a good coach. If doing something for a team made someone a good coach, Cynthia Cooper would be WNBA coach of the year, instead of being fired from the Mercury.

And why did we do that? Because she was a BAD coach. She did not have the personality or the skillset to be a professional basketball coach. And she did not have any ability to evaluate talent (Tootie Shaw, Tracey Reid, etc.).

You keep claiming that Jen "should" be the coach. Based on what? Service to the organization? By that logic, Seth should be a coach ahead of Gillom. That doesn't make one qualified to be a coach. And it doesn't make one qualified to be a coach in a running system. Pettis happened to play in that system, then worked as an assistant coach in the system. Pettis is a super athlete, known for getting up and down the court and pushing the pace. That is her style, that is the way she has always played. She understands the players and relates to them, balancing being a friend but being someone who can give direction. That is why she is a good assistant coach for this team.

If drinking counts, then you should have Donna Orender's job based on all of your contributions. :)

Gillomfan, check the latest news to see how well the coaching of Cooper has served Prairie View...their scholarships were just reduced due to Cynthia's arrogance and ignorance.

Jen seems to be very happy about the MN job...if she is bitter towards the Mercury (doubt it) she doesn't show it. Perhaps you could learn from her and take the high road and be positive.

If this were the criteria, at my second interview they would've given me Amber's job.

I said several times I am thrilled for Jen but I am stil angry with the Mercury. Yes I do have an agenda. We all do. I still say Jen deserves to be our assistant more then Bridget.

gillomfan, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. We are as you are. However, I think the issue here is that we feel like you are taking away from the Jen's great news by doggin on Merc management. Just as you would like our respect in your opinion please allow us to enjoy this great news without any irrelevant issues. :D

And again, there is no "deserves" to be an assistant. It is earned.

Quote: Gillom, a former Phoenix Mercury star who is in her fourth season as coach at Phoenix Xavier Prep, also has been hired to be an assistant coach with the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx.

Gillom will remain as Xavier's coach.

Did anybody make it out to any of Jen's Xavier games this year? I was not able to. If someone did please let me know how her team did. Thank you
