Quote: Mazzante giving back to the kids

She said she’d like to play about 10 years in the league before possibly becoming a coach or a TV commentator. Before that, though, she’ll be running the clinic, which is sponsored by the Moshannon Valley YMCA Elite Athlete Training Center and Triple Threat Hoops. Mazzante, who played tennis for four years at Montoursville, was asked what drills would be part of the clinic.

“That’s top secret,” she said smiling. “You’ll have to come and find out. I can’t give you all the details. That’s in the works.”

“I was born a shooter. It was something I was always good at. I worked at it, don’t get me wrong, and I’ve improved my game. In [the WNBA), everyone’s big, everyone’s strong and everyone is fast. I learned how to get my shot off against them. It’s just what I do.”

Maz the TV commentator... Oh that would be better than great

One thing I always like seeing Mazzante do is shoot the 3 in about 3 milliseconds :P8) Game 5 was probably the best display of her 3-pt prowess yet... Catching the ball on the running jump, flipping it out of her hands, fading to the side, nothing but net. Getting the ball on the fastbreak, quickly dribbles backwards(!) to get behind the 3-pt line, ball goes up, score. And she got her 3pters from all over the court.. She doesn't need to shoot from a certain place. Everytime... Maz can do it everytime... Too much good Mazzante.

No wonder her drills are top secret :P

She will never be great at creating off the dribble, but improved enough where defenders can't guard her too closlely. She will never be a great defender, but improved enough to allow her to be on the court later in the game.

She plays to her strengths...shooting. And she doesn't care if she missed her previous six shots, as she knows she will make the seventh. It is a great mentality to have...especially in Paul Ball.

Man, talking about raining on someone else's parade...... literally :!:

BTW, I believe the classic car that Maz rode in for her parade is a 1961 Cadillac 8)

Wasn't trying to rain on her parade. I am very happy to have her. We need a shooter off the bench. She is exactly the type of player we need to develop quailty depth.

I think you're right about her, Cam. She seemed to have no qualms about pulling the trigger, which I felt was one of the only issue Snell had.

I think Snell is a better defender. Do you think she was a little gun-shy, considering the AUS scoring record she owns, and considering the system?

No slam on Snelly, she gets much love from me, just thinking out loud......

I read something once (don't remember exactly) that Westhead specifically wanted Snelly for defense, but wanted her to shoot if open. She has an amazing shooting record in AUS. Perhaps she's not defended as closely there?
