Mazzante feels good about her new label

The bit of irony was that Mazzante celebrated with Taurasi, the former UConn standout who played a big part in ending Mazzante’s collegiate career. Taurasi’s Connecticut team whipped Penn State 66-49 in the Elite Eight and went on to win the 2004 NCAA Tournament.
Mazzante said Taurasi didn’t spare from reminding her of the 2004 outcome.
“Now, I don’t have to listen to that anymore,” Mazzante said with a chuckle. “I think that was the biggest reason that I wanted to win this thing. She can’t talk about college anymore.
Mazzante finished the season with a 5.4 scoring average and a 6.4 average in the postseason. She ranked No. 1 in the league in steals per turnover (1.3) and was sixth in the league in 3-point field goals per 40 minutes (3.2).
