FYI: Shumate was apparently spotted at O'Hare airport this weekend by the UCSB team.
here is the excerpt from today's News-Press article:
"Marianne Stanley, coach of the WNBA's Washington Mystics, attended the game. Three Gauchos reportedly caught her eye -- Taylor, Mann and Fisher. The Gaucho women encountered another WNBA coach at Chicago's O'Hare Airport on Saturday. They recognized John Shumate because he was wearing a Phoenix Mercury cap. Shumate was recently hired to coach the Mercury, the team that had one of the league's top rookies in former Gaucho star Kayte Christensen last summer. Shumate played on the Notre Dame basketball team that snapped UCLA's 88-game winning streak. " |

Once a scout, always a scout :D That's great news. Nice to know he's being proactive in going out looking for talent!
I know he's watching last season's game tapes minute by minute, finger on the pause button. |
