Hmmm......they need a name
In keeping with the tradition of naming the WNBA team similar to their NBA brothers (in this case, the San Antonio Spurs), I propose the San Antonio Saddle Sores ;)

San Antonio to have WNBA franchise in 2003

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - San Antonio will have a WNBA franchise for the 2003 season.
The team doesn't have a name, and it has not been determined whether it will be a new franchise or an existing team moved from another city.
"This is a great day for the WNBA and the city of San Antonio," WNBA president Val Ackerman said.
The team will be operated by the NBA's San Antonio Spurs and will play its home games in the SBC Center. The WNBA and its teams are owned by the NBA, though the women's league is moving toward an individual ownership system.
San Antonio was guaranteed a team after satisfying a requirement that it collect at least 6,000 deposits for season tickets. Since beginning in March, about 6,300 of the $50 deposits had been received, according to Spurs officials.
The Orlando Miracle will move to a different city next season as part of the WNBA's restructuring plan. |
