What are the players doing off season? Who has the info? How can I find out what they are doing overseas? Is there a web site that offers that information?

Kristin Veal is playing for the Canberra Capitals, which are off to a poor 1-3 start without center Lauren Jackson.

You might want to bookmark the following sites:

http://www.canberracapitals.com
http://www.canberratimes.com.au

The Caps website has quite a bit on it.

The Times has several articles on the Caps each week, but you have to look for them (click on "local sport" or run "Veal" in the search mechanism and hope you get more than tasty meat recipes).

Most of the Times articles recently have been on Jackson due to her injury, although she will play in the next game.

I don't know if any Mercury players are playing in this league (lots of other players are....like Sue Bird) but the - NWBL - http://www.nwbl.com sounds like a great place to tune up for the upcoming season. They have a Pro League and an Amatuer League. Interesting read about their concept.

Play starts in Feb/March. Too bad we didn't have a franchise here to whet our appetite for the WNBA season. mb, franchises are only 100K for the 2003 season ;)

Thanks Keegan!

Caune and I will lobby for you to be a paid scout/consultant.

We can save and pool our money and buy a NWBL franchise. (LOL)

No no no no no no ! ! ! ! ! !
Please don't ever compare any of our beloved Merc gals to a spice girl ever again!!!

Lisa I hope you didn't see this thread. Not only are you infinitely better looking, but you're probably a better singer than posh too!

Yeah don't apologise - I was just kiddin' around too.
I must admit that photo does make them look a lot more similar than they normally do.
Hopefully Lisa Harrison doesn't get kidnapped as the result of such a mix-up

Brief article about Grubin playing in Poland with Dydek and Katie Smith as teammates. Nice pic of Tuvic there as well.

You can get an insight into some aspects of Vealy's training regime from a recent article in the Canberra Times:

http://canberra.yourguide.com.au/detail.asp?class=sport&subclass=local&category=general%20sport&story_id=192841&y=2002&m=11

For info, Tom Maher is married to a long serving, but now retired point guard.

What is it about Veal? Does she wear a sign that says "yell at me"..... :?

Veal is young. She has a lot to learn Including don't throw long passes to nobody. Cynthia got on her for it. Linda Sharp didn't like it, Tom Mauer doesn't. And John Shumate won't either. She has to learn to not throw those long passes any more. I feel like strangling her sometimes. With time Veal will be a great player. I have seen some flashes of that. Go Veal!

The article says nothing about WHAT Maher blasted Vealy about so let's not assume it had anything to do with her passing.

Veal's game revolves around the long pass. A lot of the times where it didn't connect was because of the receiver. That's why it ended up in nobody's hand. Shumate will love her game because his philosphy is going to be to RUN.

She needs to KEEP throwing those long passes and her team mates need to learn to play with her style, not the other way around.

Maher will impede not help Veal. She looks really stifled in Tom's system and her assist #s have dropped off the radar.

Veal isn't half bad (sarcasm) at running a half-court offense either. She must be given latitude to create. She might have a few extra TOs but you'll notice she will create a lot of shots for others as well.
