Coach of the Year: Marianne Stanley (Washington Mystics) in a closer-than-expected race with Linda Hargrove (Portland Fire)
Age Ain't Nuthin' But a Number Award: Adrienne Goodson (Utah Starrz) and Jen Gillom (Phoenix Mercury)

'Lauren Who?' Award for Best Australian Player: Penny Taylor (Cleveland Rockers)
Best TV Announcer: Doris Burke
The Martina Navratilova Courage Award: Sue Wicks (New York Liberty)
All-Meek Team
MVP: Chamique Holdsclaw (Washington Mystics)
ROY: Tamika Catchings (Indiana Fever)
MIP: Tamika Whitmore (New York Liberty)
Honorable Mention: Tamika Williams (Minnesota Lynx)
Swish!
*Jen Gillom has found what Ponce de Leon could not: the fountain of youth. Grandmama is averaging 15.8 ppg, 40.7% from behind the arc, 80.2% from the foul line, not to mention a career low in turnovers per game. All-Star snub, anyone?
*Offense. Last year, WNBA teams averaged 65.7 points per game, with Seattle averaging a league-worst 60 ppg. This year, the league average is 68.2 ppg.
*Houston is last in the league in scoring at 64.2 ppg, but good defense apparently still beats good offense. Houston leads the league in points allowed, only yielding 58.3 ppg. New York, which ranks second in points allowed, gives up 6.5 ppg more than the Comets.
*Indiana's free throw shooting. Not only is the team is shooting 78.8% from the line; the Fever have made nearly as many free throws (287) as their opponents have attempted (290).
*Linda Hargrove has led Portland to a 6-1 record since Jackie Stiles went on the injured list. The lone loss was in overtime to Los Angeles. At 12-9, Portland is in 4th place in the Western Conference.
Brick!
*2001 All-Star Rita 'Mosquita' Williams (Indiana Fever) is averaging 6.1 points per game, while shooting 28.8% from the field and 24.2% from behind the arc. Ouch.
*Cleveland is allowing opponents to score 67.8 ppg on 44% shooting. Last year, the Rockers gave up a scant 55.9 ppg on 38% shooting.
*Korie Hlede is averaging 1.8 ppg in eight minutes per game. She has only played in 12 of New York's 20 games. On April 18, Liberty GM Carol Blazejowski stated that Hlede 'is a versatile player who makes an impact at multiple positions and is a dangerous three-point shooter.' Some impact.
*Officiating. Are these bozos actually trained?
*Svetlana Abrosimova (Minnesota Lynx) is shooting 48.5% from the free throw line. Even worse, she has already been to the line 100 times this season. She has shot nearly as many free throws as Katie Smith, who has shot 85.4% from the charity stripe for her career. Maybe whomever found the Svet bobblehead can find her ability to shoot free throws ...
*Brandy Reed ... again. Yep, that's a shocker. Don't look for a Brandy Reed 'This Is Who I Am' segment in the near future.
Parting Shots
*At 6-14, Minnesota has the third-worst record in the WNBA and would have had a shot at the number one or two pick in next year's draft. Of course, Minnesota traded next year's first round pick to Miami as part of the Betty Lennox-Tamara Moore deal. You can bet Ron Rothstein and the Sol are rooting for Minnesota to finish poorly.
*Will Betty Lennox wear the XFL's 'He Hate Me' jersey when the Miami Sol play the Minnesota Lynx on July 19?
*Apparently, Latasha Byears and Michelle Marciniak have submitted audition tapes for MTV's 'Tough Enough' competition to become a professional wrestler.
*Is Tausha Mills (Washington Mystics) the biggest first round bust in WNBA draft history?
*Will WNBA players 'collectively' sing Donna Summer's 'She Works Hard for the Money' by the end of the season?
*Coach on the hot seat: Brian Agler (Minnesota Lynx). Is that Gloria Gaynor's 'I Will Survive' playing in the background? (Editor's note: This column was written prior to Agler getting kicked up upstairs, so give Barry points for prescience.)

That article was right on the money, though I was a little disappointed not to see Semeka Randall on the all-meek team. Maybe next season Semeka!
Glad someone out there recognizes Jen & Kayte |

Of course, Full Court Press is a subscription site, so you shouldn't cut and paste the entire article...
Two years too late...lol |
