Quote: The Mercury trimmed their roster to the 13-player limit Thursday by waiving injured Shereka Wright and trading forward Angelina Williams to Detroit for two third-round draft picks.
The Mercury, who open their season Saturday at Sacramento, are faced with another roster move if and when veteran forward Penny Taylor, a projected starter, rejoins the team.
Mercury General Manager Seth Sulka said Thursday that he has continued to talk with Taylor, an Australian Olympian who is wrapping up a season with a team in Italy.
"Talks have been very positive," said Sulka, who hopes Taylor will join the Mercury in a couple of weeks.
*bold added for emphasis
Quote: Phoenix has five posts and eight perimeter players: guards Diana Taurasi, Kelly Miller, Cappie Pondexter, Tamicha Jackson, Bridget Pettis and Crystal Smith; small forwards Belinda Snell and Ann Strother; and posts Kamila Vodichkova, Sandora Irvin, Kristen Rasmussen, Jennifer Lacy and Mandisa Stevenson.
Two will begin the season on injured reserve.
By position (flexible...two will go on IR):
PG: Kelly Miller, Tamicha Jackson, Crystal Smith
SG: Diana Taurasi, Cappie Pondexter, Bridget Pettis
SF: Belinda Snell, Ann Strother
PF: Kamila Vodichkova, Kristen Rasmussen, Jennifer Lacy
C: Sandora Irvin, Mandisa Stevenson
On the way?: Penny Taylor-Gil |

| tj and lacy to the ir...just my opinion my reasoning is that crystal smith will be a fan favorite if she gets in the game which is a good thing. also as far as at the point its tough to picture anyone but miller and cappie at the point but tj will give depth if miller is hurt or limited. also there is no need for 5 posts since strother will probably act as the 5th if needed there. |

Sandora Irvin and Crystal Smith begin the season on the inactive list.
Sandora...what the hell is going on? If she isn't injured, then what the heck is going on? |

| Apparently it is just a procedural deal for today's deadline. Phoenix could put a different 11 names down tomorrow... |
