We really should do a say/mean thread for this board.
What board posters say: Looks like Tamicha Jackson is going to make the team.
What board posters mean: Get me a bartender who pours without a spout. And where the hell is that lithium?
What board posters say: We are still a young team, adjusting to a new coach and a new system.
What board posters mean: We're going to suck again unless Penny comes. |

Fans say: "Gee, I can hardly wait to see Diana and Cappie play together!"
Mean: "Dear merciful God, please let them shoot so well this year that no one notices we don't have a post game!"
Fans say: "Paul-ball is a lot like the Suns!"
Mean: "Not tonight's Suns, the game 7 vs. Lakers Suns! Yeah, those Suns. Yeah, that's the ticket!" |

lmao
Taurasi was looking like Nash! What happened? I think we need to steal one's day's rest from them (They won't play till Monday) It going to seven -- and Doris said we (Mercury) have a tough first five games.
I say: the Monarchs played alot like the Clippers in Game Six.
I mean: be agressive run the floor, but implore strategy to support it.
Or maybe Taurasi needs to 'ring-a-BELL' lol (That elbow looked vicious)
But hey, we'll bounce back! |

Ok Merc Fans... our team was horrible.. Im thinking that the experts might be right about us this year. Did we run a play? Oh that's right.. they held Sacramento to their third highest pt total in history... 105.
It's obvious this team misses Penny and Anna. |

the good news is that Strother and Jackson played well of the bench...that bad news is that you have to go 10/11 deep if you want to press and run the whole game.
the biggest problem to me though is I don't know if anyone else noticed this watching but the players looked tired. Snell looked tired after 3 minutes and KR was gasping for error the second time down the court as was lacy.
I will be a good fan but 0-5 or 1-4 is a real possiblity with 4 of the first 5 against the storm/monarchs but they better be closer but I can't think of a way for us to be closer to the monarchs. I thought the idea of pressing was to get turnovers and layups for us all it seemed to do was give them a lot of 2 on 1 situations. |

It was and is. The Suns did it, too, but why is the series going to seven? It's because the Clippers picked on what we were doing. And I'll give opponents from both leagues credit. The Clippers beat us at our own game; however, as Cassell said, I think they were selective about WHEN to run. They probably would have had a selective defensive style as well, but we never changed our offensive strategy. Same is true with Sacramento. Run and gun won't always get it done. And Mike D or commentators have said about us (Suns) that to stop us is not defense, but having to take the ball out of the basket which creates the defense that hounded us in the series, And the TOs (especially by star players in the crucial moments)
Fatigue was also a factor (nevermind the injuries) you can't run when you're tired because of in fact RUNNING! The half-court game though not either teams' style has its advantages. Going full stream ahead can and will cause accidents -- case in point our crashing and burning badly. Fluxate the tempo while playing your pace and ...
Fluxuate the defense:
The full court traps that they beat: well, don't corners and safeties get burned when they play WR/TE too tight? This causes the extra step and them getting beat for major yards or QB's dumping off and if you have a speedy and visual backfield, you can and often get burned, too.
We're not gonna win the championship with one style or lose because of one game. If we come 1 game out of the playoffs again, this game will be critized and scrutinized very heavily, but every team has a bad night (The Suns lost by 20+ points before, too)
So, what I'm saying is mix it up.
One more thing: Where's the penetration and dishing? Ann Strother is uncanny with her accuracy with this would be adjustment to our offense; that is NOT to say opponebts won't pick up on it. With a good slasher (as well as shooter) we'll actually pick up some wins (a la Nash) The Mercury are like the Suns? Judging from this game (and not about the score, but our one-dimensional offense) we're not like them yet.
Slasher: Nash
Spotup Shooters: Marion, Thomas, and Bell (big shot, btw) Even the spotshooters (if clamped on) penetrate and dish
Cappie's playing the 1, so why not?
Slasher: CP
Spotup-shooters: Diana, Ann, Kelly
Don't MIRROR the Suns, but do take a few more pages out of our book |
