lousy shooting for some of the the Mercury--Diana and Kelly not playing again! Ann 1-9, not the way to impress a coach! Cappie started slow but ended fine!
Another poster on another MB said that PaulBall will only work if Phx hits their shots--no kidding + some defense would be nice! Hope coach dont judge the cuts on this game but not a good showing for some??
85-96 Conn wins! Phx out-rebounded by double 31-61 terrible! |

| for poor ann's sake I hope she can catch on with a team that puts her in a spot where she can use her abilities. She's a soft/unathletic shooter who didn't defend in college and naturally the mercury draft her and try to make her a post player. It was a terrible waste of two picks to pick up someone who isn't going to help with anything other then marketing to teenage boys. |

| I'm surprised that Paul is using Ann in the post. At UConn after the Tenn. game her coach said that he couldn't use her in the post any longer because she was getting beat up. It was effecting her shot. Riley, Ohlde, Ford, Dydek are bigger than what she saw in college and it's only going to get worse. We're loaded with SF's and SG's. I'm not sure what Paul was thinking except that maybe Diana campaigned for Ann. I wonder if she'll make the cut on Friday. Should be interesting. |

| While Diana certainly agreed with the idea of getting Ann, I believe that it was Seth and Paul who truly wanted Ann on the team. That was explained in an article, IIRC. |

Exactly what I been saying! However, most WNBA people/coaches say players should be able to play other positions and Anns height makes one assume she should be in the post I guess! Most have commented Ann is only thrown in the Post as there isnt alot of other candidates yet, but Kamilla should be here anytime so? Being a fan of Anns and UConn, I know she can play better then last night shooting, and at UConn she was a good defender also as she gaurded the top players alot, however her size does make her slow against quicker gaurds!
Mr PaulBall has commented he knows Anns play and he wanted her, so we'll see? No-one was more surpised then me when Phx got Ann, as I figured they were loaded also, but with Penny a question mark, maybe thats why? Funny-- Oh well--If she gets cut, so be it, but one bad shooting game doesnt make for good reference to define a player, but we'll see?
On a side note--She has lots of more classes to complete before she can graduate anyway and that should come first! Going to college for 4 yrs and every summer also, and leaving weeks before graduating to play pro ball is rediculous! if I were her parent I'd be unhappy at that but Its her decision?
This team should be fine with Diana, Kelly and Kamilla back playing, but we'll see? |

Ann, I believe, doesn't have many classes left to complete, if any. Also, she has a chance to earn $30,000+ this summer for three to four months of work, so she was going to take her chances. Almost EVERY player drafted out of college has been in the same situation that Ann is in right now. So, no, it is not ridiculous. |

| I read where Ann was back at UConn this past week for a day to take a final with one class, and now still has 3 classes to finish! I know its not uncommon for players to go back to college to graduate, some way later then others and the very few never finish, but it just seems like a bad idea to me rather then finish what you start, then pursue a career! Its not like the woman are making millions of $$ like the guys are! I read somewhere though that the WNBA is addressing this issue! |

| Well if Ann isn't cut on Friday I think her minutes will be in the 5-10 minute range something that won't be too physically demanding for her. If Paul and Seth feel she has the potential they really should try to let her in easy instead of having Ann get beat up before the season even starts. I think with the right fit in the right team she would be a terrific off the bench person. I'm just not convinced that the right fit is Phoenix. She gets banged up and her shot is off. |

OH PUHLEEZZZZE! This thread is a load of crapola.
Raz and KV are not in camp. Ann is going to be a wing player, coming off the bench, with the role of running the floor and spot up shooting. She won't be playing the 4. Will you guys get it through your heads this is pre-season and the regulars aren't in camp yet???????
How many different ways do people have to tell you??? |

Hey dts! :D
KV is supposed to arrive today. Raz is in camp but was in street clothes for both the scrimmage and the game last night - not sure if it's a real injury or one of those "injured reserve" phantom injuries.
I'm no expert but my sense from watching the game last night - with Diana and Kelly dressed for the game yet sitting on the bench - is that the players that still need to be assessed were seeing big minutes. Kelly and Dee weren't playing because they're already on the team. It was an ugly game but remember this is preseason.
And Crystal Smith, damn! She was absolutely fearless. She was in the middle of everything all the time - to the point where I was concerned for her personal safety! |

so here is my question to you. if there is no one else to do it now who is going to do it saturday? kamila will be back...great, then who? the players hurt are guards. Please don't give me the Rasmussen joke he's not going to play a girl 20 minutes a game who has a career average of 1.9 pts and 3.5 rbs a game. think out the roster a little bit.
cappie 20+ at both guard spots
miller 20+ at both guard spots
diana 30+ at both guard spots and sf
pettis is going to get 20 at sf
snell is going to get time at sf
then you have crystal smith who has shown she belongs....where dose ann fit in there??
now take a look at pf/c and its much clearer.
irvin/kamila will get a lot of minutes after that....stevenson/lacy/strother and strother will be in their to try and force the other teams big to have to get up and down the floor. |

right now there are 17 people on the roster
obviously you take amber hall out, shereka wright out(i assume she has to take up an ir spot all season), penny taylor so your at 14 and have to be down to 11 and have one ir spot so subtract wisely....
cappie
miller
dt
kamila
irvin
pettis
snell
stevenson
crystal smith
Rasmussen
lacy
there is my eleven and maybe strother will twist an ankle.
you need 5 post players...kamila, rasmussen, irvin, lacy, stevenson
then you have six players for the 2 guard spots and the sf....cappie, miller, dt, pettis, snell and smith. |

She's averaged 4.9 ppg and 3.5 rpg for her career and has played 20 mins/game since 2002.
Way too much focus on Ann Strother in this thread  |

sorry about the 1.9/4.9 typo
we have to talk about something and with the last cuts coming in the next few days what should we talk about? strother is a topic because if you look at the roster and try to guess who is going to get cut where she is (either sf or pf) makes a big difference. |

Have to agree with dts on this one.
However, for those who are interested, Kristen had a legit injury (not sure what it is). She has been cleared for practice starting Monday and will be ready to play on Saturday. |

dtsnms hit the nail on the head regarding this thread
some of the posters should glance at the final roster thread
funny, there was ALREADY a thread for the game
and ALREADY a seperate thread for roster considerations
granted game play in PRESEASON has roster considerations...yet

| Rasmussen filled in for Tina Thompson last year (during Thompson's maternity leave) and was pretty damn good. |
