Deposits are not refundable according to the renewal notice we got.

Look under "Method of Payment"; it says. payments are non-refundable

Sorry, Potd, but NL almost ruined the Detroit franchise with her player personnel issues...and has the audacity to deny it, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. She is not someone I want coaching this franchise.

I highly doubt if NL was to be coach the same player personnel issue would be a problem. I think its too bad the NL so tarnished her reputation with what happened in Detroit because it seems teams she has coached since have done well. Haven't her NWBL teams contended each year she's coached them? That said, I'd prefer she just visit, not coach.......

Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about but I think one particular personnel problem would be exactly the same.

But hey, it's not like we haven't had that problem before with the Mercury...

I don't think she'll be hired, I think it would bring too much negative press, actually..I don't know if the WNBA would allow it..

I think Dan might be a big possibility..just because he seems to actually be interessted in the Mercury..and he is a former nba player..

Come on Cam, you're not in a court of law now. Your issues with NL IMO are strictly personal other than what is stated above, or you don't like the clothes she wears, or how her hair is styled. I don't recall reading or hearing where the Detroit franchise was almost ruined because of so-called personnel issues. So she denied that anything was going on; SO WHAT. She may have been trying to save the reputation of AD more than her own. Some people have a hard time coming out to their employer because of the homophobe society that we are surrounded by. I'm not saying that she should be our coach, but she should be given the opportunity to at least be interviewed and let the Mercury brass decide, not us. Us as fans, have failed too when it comes to picking someone who we think should be our coach.

Is it just me or did they just go to Rebkell's board and get that list from there?

You are COMPLETELY wrong. Issues with clothes and hair...that is Ann Meyers!

Pick up a copy of Sports Illustrated some time from a few years ago...read about that. I have also been privy to more information on the subject that I can share on the boards...and she should not be allowed to coach this franchise, or any other franchise for that matter! The issue was not homophobia; it was Nancy's lack of discretion and her complete disregard for anyone other than herself.

Well, I thought the Merc were going to trade Anna anyway..but I'll personally fly out to Phoenix and beg whoever needs to be begged to keep Anna, if trading Anna means getting Nancy..

Although, the Mercury could "take one for the team" so to speak, and hire her as the coach (anne meyers assistant coach..) so that we don't have to hear them on ESPN any more.. :D

If Diana is going to be the point guard, we need an athletic, slasher at the two. Shereka might fit the bill, but I think Angelina Williams has greater potential. Diana and Anna have a lot of similarities to their game...I think it would be better to diversify the offense more.

Trading Anna for a post player helps address our need up front. Seeing if Angelina Williams works out or getting an athletic slasher at the two (e.g., Monique Currie) is the other answer.

Okay, no offense to Dan or Ced, but they don't seem to fit the bill of our needs as a team. If we bring in a former NBA'er, then we need to bring in a post player. Teach our bigs how to move and use their size to their advantage.

Someone earlier mentioned Mark West, who apparently wasn't interested a few years back. Since we're mentioning former Suns players - What about The Hawk? Isn't he still doing Community Relations with the team?

If they want "names" to coach How about Legendary Point Guard Teresa Edwards with an assistant like Val Still?
If ya'll don't know who Val is, she's was a post with attitude...Delisha Milton Jones only meaner  I'd love to have her as a post coach, I'd love to have her around the team because she's a first class person off court. She also has some assistant experience with the Mystics I believe it was.

My wish for the team is Maria comes back as does Anna, AND we get a 2 guard like Curry in the draft and then just sign a FA post player, no trades...doesn't sound so hard does it?

line up
Maria/Ashley
Kamilla /Tamika Williams/ Sandora/
Penny/Angelina/
Anna/Monique Curry (I can dream;)/Belinda
Diana/back up point guard TBD

Edwards has one year of coaching...as a player/coach for the Atlanta Glory (15-29 record). Great player don't necessarily make great coaches (e.g., Cynthia Cooper). I would prefer someone like Joe Ciampi, a retired college coach with a lot of experience coaching in the women's game.

Val Still was an assistant in the WNBA. I would love for to be an assistant in Phoenix.

Cam, what about comments from players who used to play for Ciampi and didn't like him. What is his coaching style and would it translate to the W?

One player...Nicole Louden. There were hundreds of others who did.

Okay, I haven't followed the W for very long (2-3 years) Can anyone elaborate as to what the heck NL did? ( or denied she did)?

rumor = truth/facts ?

just a question to anyone..... how does one prove that rumor wrong?

think about some of the other so called facts in that article, like who the league was marketed to

how far do rumors go in court :?:

Plenty of former Shock players will confirm, with first-hand observations, they are not rumors but are facts. Two in Phoenix already did...

Regardless of whether it was true or not, the negative impact can destroy a team. Even if it wasn't true, someone not happy with Nancy or Anna would just has to whisper to the 'right' people to create division. The Merc have a history of that, though not publicized like the Detroit situation, so I doubt that management wants to get anywhere close to seeing that problem again.

Sadly, rumor or fact - it doesn't matter. If you re-read a couple of Cam's
posts above - he hits the 'nail on the head'.

Quote: Sorry, Potd, but NL almost ruined the Detroit franchise with her player personnel issues...and has the audacity to deny it, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. She is not someone I want coaching this franchise."

AND

Quote: it was Nancy's lack of discretion and her complete disregard for anyone other than herself.

Nancy could be one of the most technically excellent coaches around, but she ruined her future coaching chances by her lack of discretion. Even if the Detroit stories weren't, in truth, accurate, no coach should have put themselves in that kind of position.

then if there are these witnesses, why did they use the word rumor in the articles?
what kind of proof are we talking about since yop have all this knowledge but the articles do now give any real proof
driving past someones house late at night does not show anything except the person driving past to see who is parked where, needs to get a life, or maybe just should have spent more time in the gym and improving their game.
I did not see any proof in these articles.
Bottom line are you saying that Anna is NOT good enough to start for any team in the league

You know Cams talk about proof sort of sounds like George W

Rumors are all that count when it comes to "indiscretions" because either way there is no proof and many of the people believe the worst, true or not.
It's a team sport and there are 11 other players who are on the team and have heard/read these "rumors" too, how would they feel having Nancy coach the team? Slighted, jealous, uncomforatble, indifferent? Who knows but is it worth finding out?
And I don't think Cam or anyone here is saying Anna isn't good enough to start, the article implied that but it's an old article.

Now about Ciampi's style, he does suit our current team, but if you want runners or slashers on the team, he wouldn't know what to do with them  Would Angelina waste away on the bench?

No one said that, but even if the rumors are not true her getting hired would bring a lot of negativity to the Mercury..from the press..to..like someone else said, any player who wasn't happy with Anna or Nancy..

HoopsLady, you missed my point. A coach should be above reproach - Nancy was not. Regardless of whether anything actually happened she put herself and a player in a compromising situation which caused a rift on the team. Enough of a rift for players to go to management over the coach's head. I firmly believe that had any other coach, female or male, in this league been in a situation like what happened in Detriot they would be invited to leave too. Is it fair to 'convict' based on innuendo and rumor, no.... does it happen, yes.

As to Anna - I'm a huge Anna fan. There's no doubt in my mind that she's good enough to be a starter in this league. I have a great deal of respect for her, given what she's been through and what she's done to make herself better.

I think this whole 'conversation' started with the question of having Nancy as coach of the Merc. As Caune said above,

Quote: Nancy could only be Coach if they trade Anna...so take your pick ladies and gents, choose your sides

My choice would be Anna.... in Caune's line-up!
:D

Hoopslady does not want to look at the evidence or the facts. Two former players detailed specifics of what happened...and one of them had good reason to know what was going on.

Okay, here's a question..it's a little of topic, but whatever..

After reading that article, did it bother anyone about Anna crying in the locker room. I have been critical of Deforge, but I felt so bad for her after reading that article..and I don't even want to know how her other teammates treated her for the remainder of the season
