I was killing some time today and though I would condense the
remaining games to a confusing chart.
PHX has 8 home games remaining 6 against western conference
teams. 4 away games remaining, 3 against western conference
teams.
LA has 5 home games remaining 3 against western conference teams.
7 away games remaining, 5 against western conference teams
Minn has 5 home games remaing, all against western conference teams.
6 away games remaining, 5 against western conference teams.
Code:
Away> SAC HOU SEA LAX MIN PHX SAN EAST
HOME
\/
SAC x 1 1 1 1 1 5/5
HOU 1 1 1 1 1 4/5
SEA 1 1 x 1 1 1 5/5
LAX 1 1 x 1 2 3/5
MIN 1 1 1 1 x 1 5/5
PHX 1 2 2 x 1 2 6/8
SAN 1 1 2 x 2 4/6
EAST 1 2 2 1 1 x
5/6 6/6 4/6 5/7 5/6 3/4 4/4
with the simplistic win at home, lose on the road formula the
western conference ends up
Code:
SAC 16- 7 21-13
HOU 14- 9 19-15
SEA 13-10 18-16
PHX 10-12 18-16
LAX 11-11 16-18
MIN 11-12 16-18
SAN 6-18 12-22
Even giving LA the two away games at SAN we would beat
them with the better head to head schedule results.
I feel the playoff spot is ours to lose at this point. |

Great job, mranderso.
Houston's record is 14-10 and the Mercury 10-12. Statistically, the Mercury are 3 games back of Houston, but 4 in the win column. Phoenix has 3 games left against Houston. All things being equal and Phoenix splitting the two game difference in total games played to date, Phoenix would pass Houston for the #2 spot.
I think Phoenix's chances are looking very good. I really don't believe we will have a season ending meltdown like last season either. |

As sportfan told me earlier today...better we lose an away game to an eastern conference team...as long as we protect the homecourt we should be in control of our destiny.
If we'd won today we'd be in 4th place in the conference.
Nancy said during the broadcast she thought 6-2 at home would do it.
My guess regarding making the playoffs: 17 is risky and 18 will do it.
In August we have 11 games (8 home, 3 away). Either we win every home game, or steal an away game for every home loss.
Every game (esp those this week) will be huge!
Bring some friends to AWA! |

| I think 7-1 at home is required for the playoffs...6-2 means we will need some help (combination of road wins, plus losses by Los Angeles and Minnesota). |

Did Cam just say what I did in a different manner? :o
This fan is not to proud to accept help from other teams...go opponents of LA and MN. |

| The Mercury have currently won ten games..but they've only had nine home games, so you could say that they have won all of their home games + one away game...I don't know if the Mercury will be able to steal one on the road with Houston, Seattle, or Sacremento (My guess is their best chance is Houston) I think Phoenix can beat Houston..but Sacremento scares me a bit, as well as Indiana... |

Not that either team (Phx,Hou) is the same at this point, but we were
ahead with 52 seconds to go at houston last time. So I think have a
chance there. Other wishful thinking is that Sacramento might be
resting up for their playoff run by then. ( And of course, we'll be playing
Seattle for 2nd place by the last game. :D)
Our two remain hoime games with Eastern teams are Indiana and Detroit.
The same is true for LA. So we are even in that respect.
LA has two more sets of back-to-back games. Conn&NY and San&Hou
both on the road. Not a pretty schedule for them. |

You said that your guess was 17 was risky. I said 7-1 at home (meaning 17 wins) should do it. I am a tad more optimistic. Plus, I read it too quickly, and I thought you were agreeing with Nancy, which sent me into convulsions! |
