Thought you all would want to know that it's being reported on ESPN.com that PP has been traded today to the Shock for draft pick(s), opening up room on the roster for Stepanova and Irvin to play for the remainder of the season and beyond -

Thanks to Plenette for her efforts in some stout games over the last few years, and playing a lot of minutes out of position. Good luck to her.
Wish we could keep her sense of humor, though. :)
And so, another brick in the wall, and still time to settle in before the Great Pumpkin suits up next week. :)
*And* no Swifferlessness, a big plus. |

WNBA.com is saying that we are getting Andrea Stinson and the Shock's 2nd round pick next year for PP. Umm, that doesn't sound like we're making room for MS to me. That sounds like there was something going on with PP that we are not privvy to.
I am a little gobsmacked over this trade personally. I've always been a fan of PP's game going back to her days at Texas Tech. I will miss having her here and I wish nothing but the best for her in the future. |

Thoughts on Stinson anyone? tradebait? took her just to trade PP and then we'll cut her? veteran leadership but we have plenty of wings already fer cryin' out loud? keeping Stinson and trading someone else?
Please discuss. |

So basically we traded PP for a second round pick next year. And it could be a very low second round pick at that.
I am glad they were able to do something without having to cut someone, however, I would think we could have gotten more for PP.
But look at us now. Time will tell, but I think this is going to work out for us, big time. Our starting five could very well be DT, AD, PT, KV, and Step. Or do we start the rookie and bring either Maria or KV off the bench?
I am always sorry to see one of our girls go, but PP is going to a good place and I am excited about the opportunities it gives this team.
Thanks for the heads up on this, Gil. |

Maybe someone with a list of previous draft picks could let us know if anyone decent has ever been selected low in the second round, coz I can't say I'm too excited abut this move.
Stinson would have been worth at least looking at on the court before being dumped too, IMO. |

I think Stinson has a knee injury.
Chelsea Newton, a second round pick is now starting for Sac.
That's the only one who comes to mind, atm, but I'm sure there are more. |

Remember how somebody said that PP and AD seemed like they were on a different team? Pierson was way out of sync and Coach Graf probably saw getting rid of her as the last option to get this team in phase lock loop with each other. Now let's see if DeForge can adapt...
Detroit will play PP, Maria has her roster spot, and Stinson was probably done with the Shock anyway. The fact that they only got a 2nd round pick shows how PP's individualist playground game was regarded in the league...
If she fits in Detriot's game, PP will still have a position there next year. Otherwise there is always the expansion draft.
Tough times call for tough decisions. |

Lisa and Kayte were both 3rd round picks. Lisa has started for us since her 1st yr & Swiffer is so much more valuable than her stats show
Stinson will be 38 yrs old in Nov & caune said she was injured. I checked her stats & she's been seriously declining for several yrs. |

Sorry, Sportsfan, but this is not the situation. See the blog for my thoughts.
Bottom line...EVERY GM knew we had to cut someone. Teams could have just picked up Plenette from the waiver wire. Instead, we got a second round pick...and in cutting Plenette, we saved over $40,000 in salary cap space and have one less player to worry about protecting for the expansion draft (among other benefits of Plenette being gone). Plus, she was shipped to the East, not one of our conference opponents. |

Maria starting at the 4, eh? I'm not convinced that that smell I smell is not fish. |

Thanks for the info cam. I kinda had the feeling that might be the case, but I wasn't sure everyone else saw it like that. BTW, a link to your blog would be really appreciated.
I don't know about the rest of you but a starting lineup of DT, AD, PT, KV, and MS is not bad in my book. The Mercury just got bigger by about 6 inches and 20-30 pounds. (sorry, but for some very, very, extremely sad reason, I thought of mb when I finished that last sentence. Something about dreaming. :P )
And coming off the bench, Snelly, Freaky Reek, the Swifter, the Princess, Angelina, Ashley, and Irvin. I think we got stronger and smarter too.
While it might have been nice to take a chance with Stinson, we would have had to WAIVE another player to keep her. I know some of you have your ideas of who that should be, but I will go on record to say that all of those players have contributed and IMO, will contribute as much if not more than what Stinson would have done.
So the next question is.....who goes on IR if Irvin comes off? |
