She's on crutches, with her leg wrapped up like a big christmas present for some surgeon, which ain't good. Cut her to make room for Step!
BTW, I am real excited to have the beautiful Maria back! I hope they slide Kamila over to the 4 and have Pierson back up both of them. Pierson has been cold as ice lately. (Then again, so has the whole team)WTF happened? I will never understand how some WNBA teams can be so loaded with talent and stink like dead fish... |

If a player is injured on the job, insurance covers their medical expenses. If you cut that player, their medical expenses are not paid. You can see how this can cause quite a quandary for a GM and HC who have to make decisions on who to cut. I seem to remember one year that a special waiver allowed an additional player without cutting someone else. But that was a long time ago, and rules have probably changed. Also, I don't remember the circumstances. It would be nice if we could cut her while keeping her in some type of employment for medical coverage. It would solve everything. I don't want to trade our 2006 draft pick because next draft will be deeper than last one.
I'm anxious to see Maria playing with the team. With Kamila to translate, I'm hoping she learns a lot in this week's mini camp so there will be a smooth transition. |

As of this morning in the AZ Republic: http://www.azcentral.com/sports/mercury/articles/0628mercury0628.html
"Mercury forward Gwen Jackson has been lost for the rest of the season because of a torn ligament in her left knee.
The Mercury, who have lost four consecutive games and are seven games under .500 at 3-10, are expected to make another move, possibly on Wednesday, to open a spot for forward Maria Stepanova, who finally arrived from Russia late Friday. " |

Last year they did the same thing with Wink after she tore her Achillies (sp?) tendon.
She was on IR and had surgery started rehab and then she was waived by the team. |

| If Gwen is waived after (or on?) July 1st she gets paid the total seasons salary naccording to the Collective bargining agreement, so I'd expect them to cut her and activate Maria on saturday. |

Thanks for taking the time to research for us. I feel much better knowing her med expenses will be paid.
It seems Karma is in our favor, tho Gwen surely doesn't think so. I'm really glad we don't have to cut someone only to need them mid August. The salary cap must be OK with paying Gwen & Maria. Maybe Karma (Seth's foresight?) is at work again, giving us so many young players with lower salaries. |

This is a classic example of Coach Graf. Even tho its not her fault that Gwen got injured but once again we won't get to see the fruits of Gwen Jackson this year. It is so obvious what she can do for this team if only given the minutes to play.
Why did they even bother to trade for her last year. She hardly played !!!
This year she hardly played !!!
Coach Graf .. I don't know .. But its just not working for me ! |
