I just wanted to inform you all that Kayte Christensen is writing a bi-weekly column for the Arizona Republic and the Phoenix Mercury.com website this season.

Check out her latest entry this week, which was hyperlinked on the front page of the WNBA.com website. I think it might make for interesting discussion here on the board. In the future, just go to the Arizona Republic's website [www.azrepublic.com] and go to the Sports Section. When you link to the Mercury/WNBA section, you'll see a box on the right that includes Kayte's column. (It's also in print in the Republic.)

Great work, Kayte!

To think... the link from WNBA.com will probably generate more hits for Schlussel's "article" than she's had for ages. The irony is just delicious :P

(I'm still disappointed that I haven't received a reply to the friendly email I sent lil' Debbie. Such good advice, so little thanks.)

I was so steamed after reading Debbie does Dall... I mean Politics... or whatever she is ridiculing today... That I had to respond to her. And like you guys, I am waiting breathlessly for her reply. First, click on the link below to read her article:

(Link to homophobic story by homophobic bore with nothing new to say removed by your MIA moderator  )

Here is my email to her..... And Debbie if you are reading this... Pretty Please come to Phoenix... we will have a "special seat" for you at the next game......

Well, Ms. Schlussel,

As a fan of the WNBA and women's sports in general, I have to say I was somewhat amused by your article. You know what I think? "The lady doth protest too much, methinks".... Being the Mensa scholar that you are, I'm sure you are clever enough to figure that one out. While Julie Brase of the Mercury wrote from her frustration and warranted anger and Mercury player Kayte Christensen wrote her protest, I think they both have missed the obvious point from your article. Your over the top homophobia really suggests something that many of us and Shakespeare see right through. Gee, let me take a few tidbits from your bio... Hmmmm... no mention of kids or husband... and if you have either, why not brag about them to insure us that you are not one of those scary lesbians that you talk about. Getting back to your bio.. I see that it includes.. oh my gosh... COMPETITIVE SPORTS! Oh, on second look, you were in the "Jewish Olympic Games". I wonder if you know that there were likely, (yes it's true), a couple of Jewish Lesbians sharing these "Olympic" moments with you? Your bio is dripping with how you are soooooo great competing in the "men's" world of lawyers, journalists, talk show hosts and the like. What exactly are you trying to prove? Oh, and that moniker... Debbie Does Politics.... better re-think that, it's been done in Dallas. (come to think of it, perhaps they are kind of similar).

No, Debbie, I think I have the real take on your protests about women's sports and the WNBA. Don't you know how tantalizing those sexy photos of you on your website are to us sports minded women? Of course you do. And I can't tell if it is Nancy Lieberman, (wasn't she at the Jewish Olympics too?), or Anna Deforge that you are jealous of. Anyway, since I am sure you are just waiting for the right woman to come along, if you are in Phoenix this summer come on down to America West Arena. I have an extra season ticket. After the game I can take you down to the court and you can meet Anna, Julie and likely Nancy in person. Hey if your lucky we may be playing Connecticut and Margo will be around. Then you can tell them what you think to their face. I am sure a confident woman like yourself would have it no other way. In the meantime, I can suggest a couple of private places where you can place a personal ad, and I am sure that your "secret wish" will not be revealed. On the other hand, Danica may be engaged, but as you so colorfully pointed out, ("raven-haired, petite), she is very attractive, you may still have a chance there.

Have a kinder day,

PS Not that you have the guts... but I dare you to post this anyplace on your website or columns. Oh, and I am serious about that extra seat... ;0)[/b]

I swore I'd never post on this board again, and I won't make this a long harangue, but some cautionary words about Debbie Schlussel.

What she wants, this board just gave her - another link to her rabid, homophobic drivel. I know the Schlussel article mentions names, but I fail to see the need to double the effect by repeating them here.

Her psychological man-pleasing ploy seems to be to trash women who don't fit *her* mold, the general form of which is, as you can tell from her picture, "I know how the world works, and these *other* women don't*.

She sold out already, we won't.

Until maybe some well-meaning individual starts playing name tennis with Schlussel on the web.

Unfortunately, there exists a perception that Schlussel is some lone voice in the wilderness, but the sad fact is she spouts the same Conservative line as Karl Rove, that smug, slick pig of a man who sits just down the hall from the POTUS, as Deputy Chief of Staff, the darling, and architect, of the Bush elections.

The only weapon against the likes of Debbie Schlussel is to wake up each morning with a commitment to be a better person than we were yesterday, to ignore the trash she writes, to elect better people to public office so she can be thwarted in her attempts to grow (yet another) populist right wing base to fulfil her own political ambitions.

Kayte's excellent article walked a fine line, discussing Anna DeForge's courageous and successful hard work to return to basketball.

Schlussel wants to talk about inappropriate role-models. (She apparently would like her own children to grow up in her own image - anthropomorphic God-like behavior inherited no doubt from the sanctimonious Rove.)

I, for one, would like to see that happen. I think she presents as a $2 crack ho and Our Higher Power will no doubt find enough irony in the world to make that happen. It worked for Jon-Benet Ramsey. We reap what we sow. Make no mistake, I wish Debbie Schlussel, and her family, ill.

I think providing yet another link to this trash is insensitive, and ill-advised, as is mentioning names again, and providing new information that wasn't in the Schlussel article.

Links on the web grow readership of each article *exponentially*, not linearly. There may be women in and around the WNBA who *don't* wish to visit or revisit being 'outed' or held up to the Red State People as pariahs.

Last year, on another board, a (well-meaning) poster inadvertently outed a high profile person who is still in the closet. We had some discussions, and we pulled the post and the responses, with an explanation to the poster.

I'm going to respectfully suggest, without malice to the poster(s), though I hold no official sway here, that we do that with the last post.

Kayte's article is useful. The post above provides free advertising for someone who doesn't deserve it, imho, and widens the discussion into areas of individual privacy which is what Schlussel had in mind in the first place.

Well said Andypanda. I hadn't thought of it from your perspective, but it makes a lot of sense. We need to squash those kind of people instead of giving them free publicity.

I had the same thought, Andy. Why go to the hateful website and just give her another hit to sell more ads (I assume there are ads)? We all know that this type of prejudice against anyone who is not a white, ultra-fem bowing-and-scraping to men Republican mouthpiece is not only encouraged by the White House, but fomented and planned by Rove, et al. They'd have us all barefoot, pregnant, married and muted, akin to some 50's hellish nightmare, if they could.

Speak out, yes, live a quality life of love and generosity, of course - but give that female neanderthal satisfaction by reading her spittle, NEVER!

Eloquence, intelligence, passion and brevity.

You said it so much better than I. Thank you. :)
