Under the pressure of a recent win, I will succumb and start this thread.

Consider it another really big HUG!!

The Mercury are going to find a different team in Sacramento than they faced in LA. That said, Sacramento is going to find a completely different team than they faced in Phoenix on opening day. The Monarchs are due for a loss and I can't think of a better team than the Mercury to do it.

Keys to the game:

Rebounding - something the Mercury have been doing a much better job of lately :)
Interior defense - contain Yo.
Plenette needs to stay focused and get limited offensive touches. In fact, her offensive focus needs to be setting picks to open AD, PT, DT, and Snelly.
At least two of the big three hitting well.

Go Mercury!!!

The Mercury will have to bring their "A" game tonight as Sacramento has been on a roll. In order to win, the Mercury will have to do better than shoot 30% as they did when they lost the season opener, 77-72, to the Monarchs. They also will have to do a much better job with their interior defense than they did early in the season. In that first game vs. SAC, the Merc scored only 12 points in the paint while giving up 32. Phoenix only managed to keep it close because their depleted lineup did a good job on the boards, they committed only 10 turnovers, and made 29 of 36 freethrows. The Merc have had 46 (?) turnovers in the past two games so they must do a better job of protecting the ball. More help off the the bench tonight would help considering DT and AD played all 40 minutes Wednesday in LA. A big boost for the Mercury will come in the presence tonight of Penny and Kamila who were absent from the first game and Plenette also did not play.

I'd throw some different defensive looks at the Monarchs to throw them off their rhythm. Gotta watch out for DeMya Walker's dribble penetration because if we commit to doubling her, sneaky Nicole Powell will pop out for an open look from the perimeter.

No TV or live webcast tonight. We'll have to rely on Phx radio KMVP 860

For you out of towners:
wnba.com home page. Click on Listen Live for Audio Season Pass
or
cllick on FLASH for up to the minute stats and live audio access

The HTML gives stats with a 2 minute delay, which I find frustrating when I'm listening live

We need to stop turning the ball over. 16 for the night at 16:43
Although we are much closer than I thought before game tipoff.
From now on it's positive thoughts only.
Diana... make nice to the refs  No more fouls

The refs are horrid. DT with 4 fouls
Ashley with 4 ?? Ashley stop breathing !!

F*** it I just can't stay positive with those refs

22 turnovers already...with 11 minutes left in the game!!

3/8 from the line

Despite all that we're still in this thing! PennyT single handedly keeping us afloat...nice to see her getting that long ball down.

Allergic to the ball?
If we're not throwing it away, we're letting them rebound it.
PP with 1 rebound so far, Kamila 1, A-Rob 3, Gwen 0.

As the super nanny would say: that is unasseptable

59-54 with 4:56 left.

Yahoo's link is faster than wnba's.

Radio even better.

Ugh... if it's not the turnovers & the (lack of) rebounding, it's the free throw woes...

Why does it seem that Rebekkah Brunson always manages to have her good games against us? That just stings...

... because our posts still suck? Penny Taylor outrebounded all of our posts who played combined!

Memo to coach Graf - play the bench. They're there for a reason (and not just as practice players).

Hey, Kamilla is a solid post player...Penny just out did everyone at everything..last game..The Merc aren't mended yet..there is still too much turnovers..(note chemistry)..Kamilla isn't completely back yet...

And I swear, some post players think they are a bit better than what they are..Like, I don't know why the Merc will go five times in a row on the offensive side without Diana or Anna touching the ball (besides bringing it up, and passing it.) That's just dumb...but yet some of the post players will have shot the ball all five times..

Something else I've noticed...on the positive...I didn't get to see this last game (heard it thoguh..) but during the sparks game I noticed this..Certain players tend to have a lot of chemistry together, or they play really well together, and they just feed off of each other..Diana and Penny are awesome together..

No, Keegs...Brunson has something extra when she plays against us. Might be some draft karma...

In the meantime, we have yet to put together two great halves, both offensively and defensively, in the same game. Hopefully a few days off to gel will help the team play more as a cohesive unit.

Maybe we should forbid our posts from shooting unless they play post D and rebound  Actually they weren't shooting that much against the Monarchs... but they certainly forgot how to rebound.

I'm still not sure why Anna played gazillion minutes against Sac. No (more) minutes for Snelly or Shereka?

Shereka was still pretty stiff and sore in Sacramento
from the pick she ran into in LA.

Fair enough. Doesn't explain Snelly though

Also, I think we have ball handling problems. 12 turnovers between DT and Anna? Eeeeek. I think we need that backup ballhandler.

Even tho the Mercury lost to Sacramento and are now an astonishing 2-6 I am proud that they earned a split between LA and SAC. Because honestly I thought they were going to lose the LA game which would make us 2-7.

Anyways, to get a split between those two teams on the road is nice !!!

Go Mercury and Turn It Around Quickly !!!!

Yup, I know that, but my point was that if they lost to LA and Sac wouldn't they be 1-7? :D

Not that it matters because they didn't..
