To answer your attendance question, it is calculated by the number of tickets sold. At the Mercury game July 31 attendance was listed at over 10,000 for the first time all season, but there weren't that many fans at the game.
The morning of the game, there weren't a whole lot of tickets available at the box office. One reason was it was a group night with a lot of children in attendance and they sat in the upper parts of the lower bowl.
If there's any good news for the Mercury, other than improving there draft status for next season it is that attendance figures have gotten better as they've gotten worse. But again, that has a lot to do with their grop ticket sales that was done earlier in the season.
In virtually every professional sport and at the collegiate level, attendance figures aren't accurate. I knew one college basketball program where the AD looked around the arena and based the attendance figure on his best guess. |
