Aself-described "dumb country boy from southern Illinois" - now fighting the battle of his life against an aggressive cancer - will be honored tonight for the impact he made on the girls basketball program at Chandler High School.
Figuratively, the imprint of popular coach Mike Desper was etched on the floor of Coy Payne Gym as the Wolves won four Class 5A state championships in a five-year span in the late 1990s. Tonight, after a 15-minute ceremony preceding Chandler's 7 o'clock game against archrival Hamilton, the court officially will be known as Michael Desper Court.
Desper, 44, visibly weakened from a three-year struggle with colon cancer, is flattered by the tribute. He has been director of secondary education for the Chandler Unified School District since stepping down as coach after the 1999 season. ... |

Speaking of Lindsay Taylor... what is she doing in the off season? There was word at end of last season that she might play overseas. I hope she comes back strong. You can't teach tall

I heard from AZoutback, saying Lindsay was still at home waiting for a roster opening from a team in Europe, because the seaon has already progressed quite far, she's just waiting for a team to lose a player to an injury, etc.

She will be playing for a team in southcentral Turkey. The city is Alana and the team seems legitimate. Her teammate will be Lindsey Yamasaki. She will be replacing Latasha Byaers.

Lindsay is sweet & vulnerable - Byaers is tough & too street wise. Latasha was possibly asked to leave
