| In the paper today it said that there are many trades being thought about. Who do you think will get traded? |

Yesss!!!
And hopefully next season we won't draft anyone either - otherwise we'll have to waive someone else to make room :P
Now I'm just kiddin' ya of course.
I do think a trade right now would have been inappropriate anyway - unless we'd somehow gotten the bargain of a lifetime (hardly likely... there's just not enough Aglers in this league dammit... everyone out there is too paranoid to trade!)
Hopefully this means we have finally ditched the "build a team for NOW" philosophy of Cooper's that I was so sceptical of at the start of the year.
We have to accept that the time has come to rebuild.
And it doesn't have to take forever to happen either.
Look at what Seattle & Portland have done in a short space of time. They started off with nothing, but are now both teams on the rise. Actually I think I just saw them going up past us as my escalator approached the ground floor.
Our turn next. |

it makes me sick to see them lose all those games !!
as far as portland and seattle, they drafted high and smart and obviously ended up with great players for years to come ( stiles, jackson, bird ).
the mercury is in a tough position because of all the great teams in the west:
- los angeles and houston will be there for years.
- sacramento is having an off year because of injuries but with penicheiro and griffith healthy, they will be up there.
- seattle has 2 all-stars for the next 5 years ( at least ) in bird and jackson and i bet they will be champions within 3 years.
- portland has stiles and figgs to built a team around.
- utah still has williams, dydek and ferdinand and just got semeka randall in a trade from seattle.
that leaves us and minnesota, so we better get busy and better real fast !! |

| it's unfortunate that in the past we're done just well enough to not have much a left when we draft...... now its our turn..... but what will be out there next year.. unless next year is 2004 |

| The top 2 choices next year are fabulous, Chantelle Anderson, a true center from vandy, or LaToya Thomas a Forward from....some southern school. Both will be excellent players, but after that there is a huge drop off, unless someone has really improved this summer, we must pick 1 or 2 to get an impact player......that said, if we really suck next year we can choose from a number of extremely talented players in all positions....my dream is to somehow finagle 2 picks in the 2004 draft...then we draft Nicole Powell and any other of the great players available and we are a happening team with a hometown draw (Powell is from Ahwautukee) :!: |

I've seen Chantelle Anderson several times and that girl can flat out PLAY. I've never seen LaToya Thomas on the court but have heard great things about her...either of those would be super picks, if they're still available when the Mercury's turn comes around.
BTW, the Vandy player "responsible" for Kayte's broken wrist during her sophomore year at UCSB was Chantelle Anderson. |
