Unretired? Former Auburn coach Joe Ciampi, who was one of six inductees announced Sunday for the next class of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, has interest in joining the pro ranks.

"I'd take anything in the Eastern Conference," Ciampi quipped. "The West would be OK, also, but Van Chancellor doesn't want me in that conference."

The two coached against each other in the Southeastern Conference when Chancellor, the U.S. Olympic coach in Athens last summer, was a longtime mentor at Mississippi.
Just what we need.....

There absolutely should not be a standard that gives preferrence to women for coaching vacancies in the WNBA just because it is a "women's league".

While not a fan of "boys club" buddies giving every ex-nba player considering coaching their starting point, men can add to and foster the development of the league.

Some former NBA players have had successful transitions, some have not. This applies to coaching in both leagues.

While elated with the success of Carrie Graf , Anne Donovan and others; where would we be without Bill Laimbeer, Van Chancellor, Geno Auriemma, and others?

Often the players themselves desire a male coach.

The coach should be graded on their ability to produce wins, develop players on and off the court, and (to a lesser extent) relate to the fans. Gender should have no implications regarding a hiring.

No woman is taken seriously as a candidate for a job coaching in the NBA. Why shouldn't the WNBA prefer female coaches?

That being said, if a male coaching candidate has greater credentials than the female coaching candidate, the male should get the job.

Unfortunately, the WNBA is hiring anyone with NBA playing experience, not coaching experience. Sometimes it works (Laimbeer, Michael Cooper), other times it does not (Dunn, Dee Brown), and sometimes the results are mixed (Michael Adams).

You left out Shumate.

What about ex-WNBA players? C. Coop, SDS, etc...varied sucess and failure there as well.
