(excerts from article)
The WNBA was asked by the NBA to take several players as representatives of the WNBA for the NBA China Games. The Houston Rockets and the Sacramento Kings played an exhibition game for the people of Beijing and Shanghai. Of course, the China Games created huge opportunities for both the WNBA and NBA for the present and near future, however, I feel the main reason was to bring Yao Ming home. This opportunity gave Yao the chance to show his country what life is like for him as an NBA player in America. The fans were crazy for Yao! He is definitely loved by the people of China.

My most favorite, favorite, favorite thing in Shanghai was the clinic at Yao’s high school. I had the chance to work with about 15 young girls that couldn’t speak a bit of English. Believe me when I say “it was a challenge.” I had so much fun though; the most amazing part of the whole thing was that they understood me and learned rather quickly. I even taught them what a hi-five is, so they couldn’t stop giving hi-fives…it was so funny.
