Oh boy......this one's on ESPN2. Please let's not give the national audience the outcome they're expecting. A replay of the 56-38 win the last game of 2001 would be nice. Is that asking too much? ;)
Current Mercury Game Notes
Continue to start Kayte and please make sure she's on the floor if the game is tight in the end.
Give Veal more minutes :!: :!: |

Go Mercury!
So nice to be able to watch it! Our young ladies came to play tonight. Kayte is gorgeous, and all are playing so well. Great defense, forcing Houston deep into the shock clock and desperation shots.

| Well, I finally get to see the team. Harrison great d on Swoops. A lot of really good help on defense (team d.) Veal not all that impressive. I thnk that with Veal in we lose one offensive option and we don't have a good enough offense to survive that. (All predicated on watching a whole 1/2 a game.) |

8) The Mercury let the Comets make it exciting, but hung on. Santa Barbarian, regarding the Kayte & Tina tussle, I think Kayte had Tina, accustomed to having her way, talking to herself when Kayte put tight D on her and didn't back down. Kayte had a great 12 minutes in the first half, but less than 3 minutes PT in the second half. :?
A big W to begin the rest of the season, anyway you look at it.

There's a win I wasn't expecting.
Way to go Mercury!
After catching a half time score I just assumed the Comets would put the foot down, so instead I got caught up following the sweet Storm-Sporks game.
Kayte appeared to be doing well at half time. I too was surprised to see her end up with so few minutes. Then again, watching live scoreboards aren't the best way to judge things I guess ;) so I'll leave it up to someone who saw it to explain that one.
Anyway I'm one happy chappy right now :D |

| Great game, I was wondering if anyone local got it on tape? There was a storm in my area which caused the power to go out when I was at the game, so the VCR did not work. :( If you do, would you please send me a private message. Thanx  |

When she came into the second half she was overcharged again and starting to play out of control. She should have been pulled. However, when the bleeding started at the end I was surprised the the coach didn't put her back in because Kayte may go out of control but she does not tend to get intimidated or panic.
In terms of Kayte and TT, the first hit (the intentional one) was actually Johnson. I was having a bit of trouble keeping track of who was who. I wondered if it was an attempt to intimidate the rookie. Kayte did draw a total of 3 offensive fouls which was also 3 turnovers.
The whole team played well even if they did decide to give the fans a thrill at the end. The trick for next year will be to make sure all the games are played at home! I really wish more of these games wer televised, that was a fun game to watch. |

TINA THOMPSON F....37 3-13 2-7 2-2 0 5 5 0 3 1 6 0 10 (3 offensive fouls)
TIFFANI JOHNSON C.....34 2-6 0-0 2-2 4 2 6 1 4 0 0 1 6
Michelle Snow................9 0-2 0-0 0-0 1 1 2 0 2 0 0 0 0
JENNIFER GILLOM F..32 6-13 2-4 0-0 0 5 5 0 1 0 6 0 14
ADRAIN WILLIAMS C....28 1-3 0-0 1-2 0 8 8 2 2 1 1 0 3
Kayte Christensen.......15 3-5 0-0 1-1 2 0 2 0 2 0 0 0 7
Slobodanka Tuvic...........4 0-0 0-0 0-0 0 2 2 0 1 0 0 0 0
Our posts outplayed their posts. :D (eg, more points, only 5 fouls in 75 minutes combined while playing excellent defense) More minutes for Kayte & Bobo, please.
Adrain seemed to be in the right place for defensive rebounds. Kayte seemed to be there for offensive rebounds, but was often on the "wrong" side for defensive rebounds. (Defensive-denial-to-boxing-out maneuver is something to be practiced; Adrain especially could improve here; she needs to move faster.)
(All comments subject to review of the game tape, which I will do at my leisure. )
Go Mercury!

I do favor more PT for Veal. 6 minutes is not enough. She has been impressive when given the PT. Even in this game her assists/TOs were 2/1, while the others' were 4/4 (all GG's, AMP played very little, also). Veal's only shot was missed, on a penetration/option to basket, couldn't quite finnish.
More PT needed for especially Kayte & Kristen, but please reward performance with opportunity (always).
Regards,
Bob

Now if we could just get a road win
Kayte looked real good in the first half, but seemed out of control in the few minutes she was in during the second half. I think Sharp did the right thing by pulling her out quickly (although I would have liked to see her play when Houston was coming back, Adrain seemed to handle it though!) |

Wow. What an incredible game. It's amazing how well this team can play when everyone contributes.
Veal came in and made those 2 nice assists then was pulled for that turnover. I still think she needs more PT if they really want to have their complete act together to make a run in the second half of the season. They're going to need every available weapon because everyone else is just getting stronger.....even the cellar dwellers.... Yo and Ticha have been back one game in Sac and they're already causing havoc on the floor......Yo 15 PTS, 10 RBs, Ticha 10 PTs, 7 Assts
Kayte........not much to add. She's getting stronger by the minute. Bonfiglio is calm and steady and seems to always be thinking one step ahead.
I'm going to Vegas Sun-Tues.....anyone what me to place bets on the Merc to win it all? Oh wait Vegas takes bets on everything on the planet EXCEPT for WNBA  |
