The match up we all thought would happen and have looked forward to is here.
I believe this could be anybodie's game. The US should take it if they come in focused and play at their best. I think that is what it will take to beat the Aussie's.
Some would say the preliminary groupings favored the USA. I thought the same thing, until I realized that the US were never really challenged and may have become too relaxed. |

| LJ and PT will get their points, but Australia most likely win. Frankly, I think this game won't be as close as the Russia game, simply for the fact that outside of LJ and PT, Australia really doesn't have the firepower to stay with the USA. I have watched Australia and Russia a few times in the Olympics, and Russia was the more impressive squad to me (rebounding and defense wise). I hope Penny does well, but I think that the U.S. will be getting their third gold medal in a row. USA by 14. |

| LJ just had a bad shooting day. it happens. if she had a good shooting day the outcome may have been different. congratulations Team USA. i love the way LJ and the aussies celebrated with joy winning the Silver. |

Darnit...my prediction was off by 3.
Here is our scoring quintet:
Tina Thompson with 18
Dawn Staley with 14
Lisa Leslie with 13 (or was it 11?)
Shannon Johnson with 12
Diana Taurasi with 8
It was a good game. I think that Van made a few rotation errors (putting the starting lineup back in towards the end of the 1st half, causing Australia to go on a run after the bench trio built up a lead). However, Dawn, Pee-Wee, Tina, and Diana all came up with key baskets.
Hats off to LJ and the rest of the Aussies for playing a good game, and for being class acts afterwards. We'll be seeing them again in Beijing. |
