Where is everybody? Still sleeping from a rough night out? I set the VCR to record the game but when I woke up it was the 2nd quarter at 10:30 or so. I wish they'd tell when the game was on ahead of time.
It was a huge win 100 - 63 I forgot already. Commentators said that Katie Smith went down in the 1st and later Smith said she just felt her knee give out. They think it's a sprain but will have an MRI tomorrow. Her spirits were good but they had her in a wheelchair.
Our DT scored 19 pts. They said Coach C told her to shoot. |

Our girl DT was looking good today. I know she shot 8-18, but some of those shots were in...and then came right back out. She seems to be getting more and more comfortable with everyone, especially Ruth, Yolanda, and Pee-Wee (and of course Sue and Swin).
The team looked the best it has in Olympics, in my opinion. Much better ball movement. They started off a tad slow, but really picked it up towards the end of the first quarter when they went on a 14-0 run (w/6 points from DT in that stretch).
On a side note: The announcers said that Carmelo Anthony, Diana Taurasi, and Magic Johnson have been filming an instructional video together. Pretty cool!! |

I caught glimpses of the game since we were cleaning the house. Diana played REALLY well. She didn't hit any more 3s after the first quarter, but most of those misses were in and out. She did drive to the basket effectively :D
When Katie Smith came out limping, I was just sick to my stomach. Hopefully, she is going to be fine. She stepped on Lisa's foot and just went off balance after that. She seemed cheery afterwards. I felt bad for the Chinese team as well. It was like an infirmary on the sidelines. Rough game for everyone.
JustaMercuryFan, is this the picture you are trying to post?
I don't really know why it's not working for you though. If this is not the picture, then for everyone else, I found it on the USA Basketball website. |

Just remember when posting pictures that you have to use the "Img" function, you can't just copy & paste the URL of the image.

Yeah I saw that too. I was reading her lips for a little while, she was saying something like "Yeah don't worry Jan, they're actually pretty crappy & overhyped just like the men's team, and any half-decent coach with a roster like ours should have no trouble coming up with a plan to beat these chumps" ... I stopped reading after that, because she started talking about fashion tips |

JustAMercuryFan here is a link to the schedules for the remaining games - with the times (eastern standard time) listed. The box scores are listed for each game played to date so you can check on current or former WNBA players if you are interested. Maria Stepnova has had some good games, especially rebounding.

SportsFan48, thanks for the link. Dunkin Dan, LJ had to be saying that for the benefit of you Aussies! Seriously who will you cheer for?
DT was really great and the rebounding is key. My favorite Dee move is when she holds the ball up high with one hand. I love to see her do that. You know she's in charge. |

I felt really bad for China, I kept waiting for a M*A*S*H unit to come out and patch them all together.
A marketing move for the Comets to consider, they should draft Yao Ming's girlfriend, then the W could get at least a billion new viewers   . |

Who will I cheer for?
Well my ideal scenario is this:
USA slowly pulls away from the Opals, who struggle to score against the tough American D. Down 17 points with a minute to go in the third quarter, coach Stirling takes offence when LL starts trash talking her buddy Rachel Sporn. Jan runs out onto the court to confront Lisa, but is stopped by the refs, who give her a tech. Diana pokes her head around from behind the ref & sticks her tongue out at Jan, so she comes storming back out again. The refs have no choice but to toss her angry azz out of the arena.
LJ calls a timeout, and together with assistant coach Dalton, they formulate a real game plan. The 4th quarter sees an amazing comeback, with inspired play from Penny & Kristi leading the charge.
Training by 1 point in the dying seconds, Harrower throws an alley-oop pass to LJ, who slams it home for the win. After the ball cannons down through the basket, it hits the back of Lisa's shorts, dislodging her butt extensions and sending them to the floor.
 |

Mercurymaniac, I thought about M*A*S*H as well :D They kept focusing on them with ice bags and stuff.
Did you guys notice another UCONN connection in the game that was similar to the one versus the WNBA All-Stars? It was around the 9:19 mark in the 4th quarter when Renee Brown* was talking. It went from Sue getting the in-bound pass, to Diana from the corner outlet, to Swin for the lay-up.
I can't wait for the games on Wednesday... but I have to get up early again
*Originally wrote 'Jones' instead of 'Brown'... thanks to CamrnCrz1974 for the correction. |
