Today, Friday the 13th of August, 2004, marks the beginning of the Olympics. For the next two weeks, athletes from across the world will compete to see who is the ultimate in their respective sports.

At 8:00 PM EDT, the Opening Ceremonies will be shown on NBC. It will be nice to have a few hours of enjoyment, because today is a very intense day for me (My grandparents, sister, aunt & uncle, as well as two cousins live in the area of Florida where Hurricane Charley is projected to make landfall).

Many athletes train their whole lives for this moment, to be representing their respective country in front of the world.

May the 2004 Athens Summer Games be safe and enjoyable for everyone, may new heights be reached, and may dreams become a reality.

For those of you who want to comment on the Opening Ceremonies, you can do so here. Hopefully we'll get to Penny, as well as Diana, as they march into the Olympic Stadium.

Apparently half of the Australian team are not turning up to the opening ceremony - it's not good for your fitness to be standing up for 8 hours straight. Since the Opals are playing on the first day of competition, they probably won't be at the Opening Ceremony.

Methinks they're adjusting for time zones. We here in AZ have NBC Olympic news from 6:30pm to 7pm. Opening ceremonies start at 7pm MST

BTW on that uniform discussion we were having.... I just watched a Discovery chanel special on the 1st olympics. Our teams should definitely wear the same that the original olympians wore. That is NOTHING

Well standing for 8 hours straight certainly did not effect our girls!!!
What a game...Dee looked great. Is it me or does the bench have a better chemistry/flow than the starters?

Thanks for asking DTFAN. My family made out okay. My grandparents only got some wind and rain, but my sister lost power down in Bonita Springs (just south of Fort Meyers). She said some trees were down, roads were flooded, and there were some blown out windows. Thanks again.

Here is a Box Score:

Thanks for the box scores. They don't exactly post individual stats on TV.
I hadn't had a chance to look for their stats yet. I've been all over the bloomin fu....n internet looking for TV times for Aussie games. I want to keep up with all my girls.

Anyone out there with AUS games on USA TV schedule, please help me

I started a new thread with everything Aussie.
Would be nice if I actually watched some games

1carol,

The official website does have the schedules for games on the NBC networks for each day and list which games will be broadcast. CNBC has most of the team events usually from 11pm until 11am.

Would you please put the line on here for me. All I'm finding are general listings. ex: basketball - diving - futbol 7am thru 3pm without specif times. I have become very frustrated

on top of that, I just found my refrigerater warm & ice melting in freezer
Where in hell do I buy a new one on a Sat night or even Sunday morning

methinks caune's luck (bad for home repair) has rubbed off on me.
we went partying together last night too

1carol, the republic has the specfic times of games. Coupled with the general listings sometimes it can be figured out. The only thing they are specific on are the team games. What NBC has listed has come on at the scheduled times, then they intercut with other events. Surprisingly, they are showing complete games.

For your fridge, Lowe's has a same day delivery policy. Although I'm not sure if it extends to Sundays. Good luck getting it taken care of.

Kim Wielens is in the Olympic team? Even for NZ I wouldn't have picked that.

Thanks to you and potd who gave me same info
I'd have saved time if only I'd gone straight there. But I "had to" check out other stores prices etc only to end up at Lowe's with Monday delivery. They set it for morning instead of the normaly scheduled afternoon. That should help a lot if there's anything left to put in it. The freezer part of the side by side cools like a refrigerator, the refrigerator doesn't.

For dinner tonight we had thawed out Italian cheese filled Caneloni with German bratwurst (won't do that again :( ).

Ugh! Sounds like you had a dinner in the theme of the Olympics :) . Glad to hear the new fridge will be there tomorrow.
